Family, friends and an ever increasing group of concerned supporters, of Ashley Oosthuizen (22), a young South African girl, who was imprisoned for life in a Thai jail two years ago, are appealing to the ANC government in SA to pay urgent attention to her case. The Once Proud Boer City Nicknamed Rosestad Is No More. Tuesday was the 12th day in which garbage was not collected by the municipality of Bloemfontein, causing mountains of black refuse bags to lie uncollected in the streets in neighborhoods like Pelissier and Lourierpark. Small-scale black farmers close by have been letting their pigs invade the neighbourhoods, ripping open the refuse bags looking for food, leaving a big mess.

Railway engineer and analyst Dr Willem Sprong says the rail network can still be saved, but only just.
With only three months left on their contracts, the Passenger Rail Agency SA’s (Prasa) board still has time and money to fix the failing agency.
This is according to railway engineer and analyst Dr Willem Sprong, who is technical director for railway engineering at Gibb Engineering.
Sprong has over 20 years’ experience in the industry.
It’s not a secret that Prasa and, in fact, the national rail system are in serious trouble.

Jacob Zuma was successfully ousted as president just over a year ago, but his legacy of corruption has a long tail. As Marianne Thamm reports for the Daily Maverick, individuals close to Zuma appear to have been involved in an elaborate plan to siphon R45m through the police service to buy votes.
The plot centres around a police contract allegedly irregularly awarded – and at an inflated price. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) believes money was to be laundered for the purchasing of votes at the ANC’s national conference in December 2017. The scandal emerged in court papers.
While the ruling party, now led by President Cyril Ramaphosa, gears up for its week of annual January 8 celebrations, culminating on Saturday 12 January at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, the cosmic debris from its life-or-death 54th elective conference in 2017 keeps pockmarking the political landscape.
